Russo is ready ... for you!

We have watched this lovely, gentle boy turn into a very special dog. While Russo is fine with all the other boys here at Grey Haven, he prefers the company of the humans he knows. He is not the first dog to greet visitors ... rather he stands back and watches and makes up his own mind who is worth visiting.

His main interest (after dinner, of course) is being with his person. He is a leaner and really would like a mom and dad of his own. Russo will do best in a home with one or two other dogs and no cats.

Russo has waited a long, long time for a family of his own. It would be wonderful to be able to tell him that it's finally his turn to "go home."

This handsome gentleman is a huge smiler! When Russo is happy, he just curls that upper lip back and wags his tail furiously. He is a leaner and really would like a mom and dad of his own.

Dolly: Sweet red girl

Dolly is a sweet little red girl who was born in July 2006. She gets along well with all the other dogs here at Grey Haven.

Dolly is very well behaved and certainly does enjoy her meals and loves her treats! Dolly likes older children and most small dogs. We're not sure about cats yet.

While Dolly is getting lots of love attention at Grey Haven, nothing would make her happier than moving into a new adoptive home.

Lisa learning life is good

Lisa is a recent arrival at Grey Haven. She is a two year-old dark brindle who is learning that life is good! We're hoping that she'll learn life can be even better once she is placed into an adoptive home.

Lisa has some of the most unusual coloring we have ever seen. She is white with very dark brindle and is heavily ticked. The dark brindle runs down the outside of one back leg and makes her look as if someone dipped her in chocolate!

Her eyes disappear into the dark color on her face, but she really has lovely brown eyes. She is very much a puppy and is learning that people equals food! She can be very shy one moment and licking your face the next.

Cisco's Christmas Eve gift: A new home!

Cisco has received the best Christmas present a greyhound could ask for: A new home and a family of his own!

Here's the story from Cisco's adoptive mother, Joan:

"Although my husband Rick and I had originally planned to bring Cisco home the day after Christmas (my birthday), after seeing him on Sunday December 21st, we simply couldn't wait! We rushed to prep our house for him including getting safety rugs in place on our tile hallways and getting Gordy (Hey Snoopy) sufficiently excited about sharing his home with another greyhound. Then we were off to pick up Cisco on Christmas Eve!

Once we were home, Cisco surprised us a few times with his speed and power by pulling us off balance, counter surfing, bonking his head against the clear shower door and showing absolute fascination with that "other" greyhound in the full length mirror in the bedroom. Cisco is the most curious boy with the happiest disposition! Nothing beats seeing him wag his stub of a tail so furiously that it makes his entire back end wiggle. He is a treat and we're thankful that he was so wonderfully cared for during his time at Grey Haven."

Wanted to share some of Phil and Joyce's Xmas Party pix. They tailgate every year with the "kids" ... cheeseburgers and fries from McDonald's! Even Loopy got some.

This year the horses came to check things out but I don't believe they got anything other than carrots!

What a nice way to share the holiday with the ones you love!

Holiday greetings from Grey Haven

A special holiday greeting from all of us at Grey Haven to all of you. This is the time of year when we concentrate on giving to those we love, including the greyhounds who need us.

With the economy they way it is, it's not unusual for donations to be down and for families to concentrate on their own rather than our greyhounds.

But we here at Grey Have have been fortunate enough to be able to continue our work thanks to so many of you. We may have to cut back on some things, but we will be able to help a good number of new dogs in 2009. How wonderful is that?

From all of the dogs you have helped this year, from me personally to each of you who have spent time and energy helping to keep Grey Haven functioning, a huge thank you and may you have the happiest and healthiest of holiday seasons.

May the New Year bring nothing but wonderful things to each of you. May the New Year bring all of us continued joy and the ability to help those less fortunate ... including our greyhounds.

My Irish mother used to begin many a sentence with the phrase "This time next year, if God spares me and I'm livin' and well, ....." Well if I am here, and "livin' and well", I want to be at exactly the same place; at Grey Haven, with a bunch of good folks, having a blast at the annual GAF Picnic. Missed seeing all the folks from Tampa - but I know that were having a good time on their cruise.

The food (all brought by the guests) was teriffic, the company was superb and the hostess....well, as usual, the greatest!!!! Thanks, Marilyn for another great event.

Don't forget! This Sunday we'll be celebrating the holidays at the annual GAF holiday picnic! This is the one annual event held here at Grey Haven.

You can spend time with our greyhounds (yours are invited too of course!) as well as see old friends and meet new ones.

We'll have auctions, raffles, lots of greyhounds and their people. Remember to bring a dish to share for our luncheon buffet. Beverages will be provided. Event runs from noon to 4 p.m. Please join us at Grey Haven. Admission is free!

Ringo receives holiday gift: A new home!

December 30, 2008: Ringo update from his adoptive mom Debbie:

"I can't thank [Greyhound Adoptions of Florida] enough for all you have done for these wonderful dogs and for bringing Ringo into our lives.

Ringo has settled in quickly and seems very comfortable and content in his new home. He is getting lots of love and enjoying walks on the leash, exploring our neighborhood.

We have a nice sized fenced yard for him to run in, but he seems to be pretty serious about retirement and doesn't choose to stay outside too long. Maybe the thirty-something degree temperature has something to do with it :=)"
