PLEASE Remember Our Greyhounds With BROKEN LEGS
In the past 4 years, Greyhound Adoptions of Florida has never forgotten the broken leg dogs. We took in over 50 of them the very first year….and with each year thereafter, we took as many as was physically and financially possible.

Every year countless greyhounds lose their lives after suffering from a broken bone while racing. One must assume that it is not economically feasible for owners to pay for repairs on a dog who will never race again. BUT we are NOT owners…we are people who work tirelessly to save the lives of these gentle souls. It takes massive amounts of fundraising just to keep an adoption group afloat and there is very little left over to cover the costs involved to repair these broken legs.
This fact just prompts us to do MORE fundraising…no greyhound deserves to die because someone put him on the track and he broke a leg racing his heart out to make money for human beings. Thanks to the generosity of the greyhound public, we continue to do the best we can for each of these dogs. Remember….it’s YOUR donation that keeps these dogs alive.
Please meet the greyhounds with broken legs who wait for that very special family…

Donahue Born 4-18-03 Broken Hock 6-7-06
Donahue is a handsome 3 year old boy who broke a hock while racing. While the break is healing well, he came to us with four wounds from improper splint placement that are open to the bone. Our first goal is to get good, healthy healing to take place and at that point we are hoping that the break will also have healed well. Through each daily bandage change, this boy has stood patiently and never once fussed. He is a happy, tail wagging greyhound with the patience of a saint. Fingers crossed that we can get this boy back to running on all four legs.

Chandler Born 8-1-04 Broken Hock 3-4-06 Re-Broke Hock 5-22-06
If ever there was a hard luck boy, Chandler is IT!! He never saw the big race track as he managed to break his hock the first time on the training track at the farm. It was a rather nasty calcaneal fracture that needed surgical repair.
While recuperating here at Grey Haven, Chandler had the misfortune of twisting his leg while on a walk and re-breaking the leg in the same spot. Fortunately the implants (plate and screws) were intact and we decided to do some bone grafting to strengthen the area that needed to heal again.
As of this writing he is doing well and we anticipate this sweet boy will be ready to go home at the beginning of August. He is a gentle greyhound who needs a family that will quietly show him that the world is wonderful place.
