Holiday memories

Sun Nov 16, 2008 @ 07:11PM

As we busy ourselves making holiday preparations, it often hits us at odd times that this will be the first holiday without one of our beloved greyhounds.
Please take some time and sit down and share a memory or two with us about that special dog.

No holiday is complete without memories of years past. Let's remember together.

This is for my lovely girls, Buffy and Honey......how I will miss you both this holiday season.

It's been more than three years since I lost my Jennifer, and she has been on my mind a lot lately. I miss my beautiful girl with her stinky, face-cleaning kisses. She was my first greyhound, and I couldn't have had a better guide into the wonderful world of this very special breed. Because of her, I will always have room in my heart and my home for these incredible dogs. I love you, pretty Jenn Jenn.

It is interesting that you post this topic. This will be our first christmas with our new and first greyhound Kate. I look forward to making it a great christmas with her. She already has a stocking and I can not wait to see what she thinks of the tree. As far as I know this will be the first christmas she celebrates with "all of the trimmings." We have already purchased a few gifts and I can not wait to spend the holidays with her. Just as you have, Jaimie, I will remember her as our first greyhound once she is gone, but now I just look forward to all of the holidays ahead!

Courteny.....you have no idea how much it means to all of us at GAF to know that Kate is going to have the best "first" Chrismas of her life! This is what it's all about for each of us who has worked with the dogs for so many years. And this is how you create the best memories in the world.
Ask Jaimie to tell you Jennifer's story....it's an amazing one and because of Jennifer's travels, we now count Jaimie as one of our best friends.
It doesn't get any better than this!

Well, I will always miss my Nancy no matter what time of the year. Nancy was 10 1/2 when her lucky moment came and Marilyn and Bob rescued her from that nasty breeding farm she had been on for years. Nancy was a subdued personality who just did her turn outs and back to her crate at the farm according to the lady that helped get her out of there...but my oh my, she was quite the opposite when she became a family member!

Nancy had a way to make everyone laugh...she loved living life...for the first time ever in her life and she never looked back. She insisted on going everywhere with me and did a crazy, howling, stomping dance to assure me she needed to go. And our favorite stop quickly became Dunkin Donuts. I would get back to the car with donuts in bag...and Nancy would be ready with her head resting on my arm and Stevie was right there with his head resting on my shoulder. And mom obliged and donuts were enjoyed...many times over :)

My funniest memory of Nancy was at a meet and greet at petsmart one saturday afternoon. A lady approached with her baby in the stroller and before she could ask or I could say okay....Nancy bee lined it to the stroller in an oh so happy way! I thought..."oh how nice...she likes kids...that's always cute"....next thing I knew Nancy's face dove into the corner of the stroller seat...she plucked out an animal cracker....then she turned and trotted off to the doggie beds and plopped down to eat her found treasure! The lady and I just laughed...how could you not! Nancy always knew an opportunity when she saw one...just like the day Marilyn and Bob rescued her from the farm.

My Nancy...always in my heart and my thoughts :)
