An open letter from Jerry Murray
Help us help greyhounds in need
Hello, my name is Jerry. No one ever told me that I was “different.”I came to Grey Haven when I was ten months old and I don’t ever remember running on four legs.

It wasn’t until Roper came to stay for a while and I heard mom talk about Winslow and then I started to put two and two together. I always thought that it equaled three, not four.
Of course, I lived with Phoebe and she only had three legs so I just figured some of us greyhounds had three legs and some had four.

I spend most of my time waiting for company to come and take me out in the big field so I can run and play with my Jolly Ball. Here is a video slideshow of me doing just that:
I eat a lot and sleep curled up next to mom every night. I listen to her talk on the phone too. I am learning now what a tripod is…..guess that’s me too, huh?
Grey Haven is a place where dogs like me and Roper and Phoebe can come and get “fixed.” Sometimes “fixed” means losing a leg. But you have to remember what the famous Dr. C. Guillermo Coutosays: “Greyhounds are born with four legs so that one can be a spare.” Really,we can do just fine on three!!!
So, about my friend Winslow - he is a famous artist. Here he is hard at work making a painting. That's right - a painting!
Winslow's Mom and Dad helped him learn how to play and take up painting after he lost a leg to cancer. He can do all the things that I do. I’m gonna meet that dude one day!!
We had another visitor last month here at Grey Haven. His name was Ranch. Here's his picture:

I was sure that when Ranch left here to see the doctor he was going to come home like me and Phoebe, Roper and Winslow. Losing a rotten leg is a good thing! I was going to teach him how to run with that Jolly Ball!!!
But he never came home. Mom cried … Aunt Pam cried ... I know many people cried. Then mom became worried about that money thing. (What the heck is money?)
What if we got another dog here at Grey Haven that needed help right away and we couldn’t pay? What if we ran out of money to help those needy dogs who wait to come here to get better? Wow, the humans were really worried.
So I talked to my friend Winslow. He and Roper and Phoebe and I decided that we should help with a big raffle. Winslow said he would let us use one of his very famous paintings as part of the prize package!!! Our friend Barb put a new frame on it and it looks so cool!!!

And then my Aunt Janet made this Pixie Hound thing ... it looks just like Winslow! It paints like Winslow!!! And it has three perfectly wonderful legs, just like Winslow!!! How awesome is this???

Okay, humans. Now it’s up to you to help us kids at Grey Haven get ready for another dog that needs help ... just like we all did at one time.
So please check out our February '09 Fundraiserand consider buying some raffle tickets for a chance to win Winslow's Prize Package.
Click here if you're ready to purchase a raffle ticket now!
Your raffle ticket purchase will help ensure that the next dog in need that comes to Grey Haven has a place to get better and learns they too can have a meaningful life full of play, love and of course, lounging around.
We don’t want any more tears around here ... or any more sad phone calls. We just want more dogs that will be happier with three legs to have the chance to be like us.
